In a spirited effort to educate and empower communities, Hon. Paulina Akabila, the Municipal Chief Executive for West Akim, on Tuesday hosted a vital sensitization program on the effects of mining and strategies for sustainable development.
The event, held at the Municipal Assembly Hall, brought together community leaders, youth groups, assembly members, and stakeholders from across the municipality. With the rise of illegal mining activities and their devastating effects on the environment, the program focused on creating awareness about the long-term dangers of unregulated mining and the need for responsible resource management.
In her address, Hon. Paulina Akabila emphasized the importance of protecting the municipality’s natural resources while also encouraging citizens to channel their energy into innovative and sustainable businesses. “We cannot develop West Akim on a destroyed land. Our water bodies, farmlands, and forests are our lifeline. Let’s protect them while we explore other ways of building our economy,” she stated
