WEST AKIM OBSERVES GREEN GHANA DAY

As part of Government’s effort in restoring the greenery in Ghana’s seeming degraded environment and forest depletion, the West Akim Municipal Assembly has observed the Green Ghana Day. The tree planting exercise was symbolically conducted at a forest portion of the St. Thomas Technical Senior High School.

In an address to mark the day, Hon. Charles Acheampong Member of Parliament for Lower West Akim Constituency), said it was very significant to mark the day to restore Ghana’s greenery environment. He indicated that the day was being observed nationwide, adding that, all MPs at various constituencies were taking part in the tree planting exercise. That, he said showcased how relevant the day is to the Government. He urged all citizens to plant trees in their various environment and to ensure its growth by monitoring it.The MP noted that individuals, schools, or groups that will monitor the trees planted to ensure its growth would be awarded to encourage the activity.

\The Hon. MCE, Mr. Seth Oduro Boadu, reiterated government’s commitment to ensuring the restoration of Ghana’s greenery environment by calling on all and sundry to embark on the activity of tree planting. He bemoaned that the tree planting exercise marked a year ago was not monitored which led to a stunted growth of most of the trees planted. Owing to what the MCE termed was “unfortunate”, he appealed to all stakeholders to ensure monitoring of this year’s exercise to yield good results. The Kade District Assistant Manager of the Forestry Commission, Alhaji Abubakar Saddique, called on all stakeholders to support the tree planting exercise to make it a success. He said 60,000 trees had been earmarked to be planted in the West Akim municipality to mark the day. He urged the inhabitants to call on the office of the Municipal Forestry commission for a tree to go plant.

The Hon. Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Seth Oduro Boadu, led a team comprising the Hon Member of Parliament for the area, Mr. Charles Acheampong, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Paul Mac Ofori, the Municipal Director of National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Mrs. Modesta Sapaty, the Kade District Assistant Manager of the Forestry Commission, Alhaji Abubakar Saddique, and some heads of department and unit.

The Municipal Chief Executive, MP, Municipal Coordinating Director, Area Manager of Ghana Commercial Bank, Headmaster of St. Thomas School and some heads of department and unit symbolically planted a tree each to showcase the exercise.

WAPCOS CONSTRUCTION LTD HANDS OVER 1D1F (ENABLE YOUTH PROGRAM) PROJECT TO THE WEST AKIM MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY.

WAPCOS construction limited on the 21st of February 2022, handed over an Oil Processing factory under the “1 District 1 Factory” (1D1F) initiative of the government to the West Akim Municipal Assembly.  

Receiving the keys to the Project, The MCE Hon. Seth Oduro Boadu expressed his appreciation to Min. Of Trade and Industry, the Contractor and the Consultant of the Project for the edifice. He advised the users of the facility to inculcate the habit of culture of maintenance.

WEST AKIM MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY HANDS OVER CLASSROOM BLOCK

HANDING OVER OF CLASSROOM BLOCK BY THE WEST AKIM MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY

As part of government’s effort in ensuring infrastructural development, the West Akim Municipal Assembly has handed over a 3-unit classroom block to the Onyinafunso community.

The edifice was funded through the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) and the Responsive Factor Grant (RFG) at an estimated cost of GHC502,000.

Handing over the edifice (Onyinafunso M/A Primary School) to the community, the Hon. Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Seth Oduro Boadu, said education was one of the priority areas of the government and for that matter very salient to ensuring that no community in Ghana was deprived of educational facility.

At the short ceremony, the MCE charged the community and school authorities to be adherents to maintenance culture of the edifice.

He said the Hon. Member of Parliament, Charles Acheampong was lobbying to extend electricity to the community, adding that, in no time the inhabitants of Onyinafunso would be enjoying electricity.

The Municipal Director of Education, Mrs. Eunice Amfo-Akonnor expressed gratitude to the municipal assembly for the gesture.

She said though her outfit needed a 6-unit classroom block for the community, yet, she was joyful, and hopeful that at least the 3-unit was better than none.

The education director expressed joy over what she described as the 3-unit classroom block comprising modern facility, adding that the authorities should inculcate maintenance culture to prolong its span.

The Hon. Assembly Member for the area, Mr. Ntow expressed joy over the gesture and appealed to the inhabitants of the Onyinafunso community to rally support for the government in its development effort.

HOISTING OF FLAG BY SECURITY SERVICES IN WEST AKIM MUNICIPAL

Today, three security services thus, the Ghana Immigration Service, the Ghana Ambulance Service and the Ghana National Fire Service hoisted their flag to mark the 25th Anniversary of the presence of Ghana National Fire Service in the Municipality. The service commanders in their speech thanked the Municipal Assembly for the support they have shown them, and also outlined some of their challenges to the Municipal Assembly.

The Municipal Chief Executive in return showed gratitude to them for the support given him during his first term in office and also pledged his unflinching support to address the challenges raised by the various Service commanders.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Seth Oduro Boadu today embarked on an inspection of all ongoing road projects within Asamankese. The projects include the Adeiso-Asamankese main road which is being Asphalted, the ICGC road and the golden child road which are all under construction. After the inspection, he was satisfied with the progress of work done and expressed the optimism that the contractors will finish the work on schedule. He however admonished all road user to obey cautions and instructions issued by the contractors in order not to impede their work.

CONFIRMATION OF MCE FOR WEST AKIM MUNCIPAL ASSEMBLY

On Thursday, 30th September 2021, Assembly Members of the West Akim Municipal Assembly confirmed Hon. Seth Oduro Boadu, the President’s nominee for the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) position.

He secured the votes of 34 (72.3%) out of 47 Assembly Members in an exercise supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Seth Acheampong expressed his profound gratitude to the Assembly members for reposing confidence in the President’s nominee.

He also assured that there are plans to tackle all school with poor infrastructure within the Municipality.The Municipal Education Director, Mrs Eunice Amfo Akonnor thanked the Municipal Assembly for this good gesture and also appealed to the community to give the needed support to the contractor. The Queen Mother in tern thanked the Municipal Assembly for this project.The MCE was joined by the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr Paul Mac Ofori, The deputy director, Shakil Mahamood Kpedau, Municipal Works Engineer, Matthias Eduah and some heads of departments within the Municipal Assembly.

JICA TRAINS STAFF OF WEST AKIM MUNICIPAL RECORDS UNIT

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) as part of its technical assistance and support project to the Local Government Service for the development and operationalization of an effective and efficient records and fixed assets management system today, visited the West Akim Municipal Assembly as one of the selected MMDAs to pilot this project to train staff of West Akim Municipal Records Unit .The Technical Advisor for the project, Tanaka Yusuku presented the project work plan and outlined the major activities to be executed to achieve the project nationwide.

INAUGRATION OF REVENUE TASKFORCE BY WEST AKIM MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY

MCE for WAMA inaugurating the taskforce

The Chief Executive, Seth Oduro Boadu, with management of West Akim Municipal Assembly on this day, Monday 2nd August, 2021 moved in to officially inaugurate the Revenue Taskforce as part of its well thought through Revenue mobilization strategies as embodied in its main Revenue Improvement Action Plan (RIAP) for 2021 fiscal year. This is sufficiently grounded in the existing legal framework and regulations.
Section 12 (3a) of the local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), places the responsibility for the overall development of the District on the head of the Assembly, West Akim Municipal.
As a result of this, section 12 (3b) tasks the Assembly to come out with requisite Plans, Programmes and Strategies aimed at effective mobilization of the needed resources to enable it carry out the development agenda. Also, the IGF Reference Guide, 2019 found expression for the Assembly revenue drive and strategies for 2021 financial year.
Consequently, the Internally-Generated Fund (IGF) Technical Team as spelt out in the IGF Reference Guide, 2019 document was earlier in the year formed and duly inaugurated by management in the Assembly. It is there to provide, all the technical support to the Revenue Taskforce. The Taskforce was carefully selected with due diligence with regards to individual expertise and efficiency in group performance as exhibited over the years. And more importantly, security from the municipal police department will come handy as key stakeholders in this body.
The Taskforce Team among others is to enforce and ensure general education and sensitization particularly, on revenue matters, development control measures in the municipality, compliance of rules and regulations governing the setting up of businesses and the requisite documentations thereof.
