The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development in collaboration with the Municipal Health Insurance Scheme in efforts to seeking good health of Persons with Disability (PWDs) in the municipality, has embarked on the registration and renewal of National Health Insurance Scheme policy for persons with disability in the municipality.

In an interaction with the beneficiaries, the Municipal Director of Social Welfare, and Community Development, Mr. Francis Opoku Nsiah, said the exercise was not first of its kind.

He established that it was the department’s routine exercise executed every year as to when members’ cards expired, and new entrants enlisted unto the scheme.

He encouraged members to inform others about such privileges since not all persons with disability were registered in the indigent register.

He urged members to call on the social welfare office to be assisted to renew their cards.

He admonished them not to wait until they were sick before they seek medical attention, adding that the renewal of the card must not be effected after complete expiration.

The director bemoaned that the challenge the office faced was the PWDs who failed to present their cards for renewal 3 months to expiry date as stipulated.

The director said management was still devising a way to get them enrolled but until then NHIS secretariat would not be able to be in their homes for the registration owing to the set- up of the gadgets.

A total of 26 PWDs were declared as indegents with a break down of 25 for renewal and 1 for registration.
