Local Economic Development (LED) aims at boosting local economies, promoting job creation and income generation and improving governance and municipal performance.
In line with this, the West Akim Municipal Assembly has rolled out an initiative under the Local Economic Development programme to quarterly support farmers and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the municipality to boost their businesses.

He further stated that all the items received shall be accounted for in the next three months.
The items donated included bags of sachet water, assorted agrochemicals, goats, bags of rice, and boxes of indomie, amongst others. Cash donations too were included.
The Hon. MCE said the farmers who received goats shall be made to give back to the assembly a nannie goat after the second quarter of the year so as to help others too benefit from the initiative.
According to the Municipal Environmental Health Officer, Ms. Melvin Potakey, the initiative is the first of its kind and had come to stay. She said the first trench had 40 beneficiaries from the municipality.
