In a bid to improve the quality of education and enhance the learning environment in the municipality, the West Akim Municipal Assembly has handed over 250 dual desks, 350 mono desks, and 55 teachers’ tables and chairs to the Education Directorate for onward distribution to schools in need. The handing-over ceremony took place at the Municipal Assembly premises on November 26, 2024, drawing the presence of key stakeholders, including education officials and school representatives.

Speaking at the event, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Seth Oduro Boadu, emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to supporting education and ensuring that students have a conducive learning environment. He noted that the provision of furniture is a crucial step in addressing challenges faced by many schools within the municipality.

“This initiative is part of our broader efforts to improve education in West Akim. We recognize that inadequate furniture in schools hampers effective teaching and learning, and we are determined to bridge this gap. This support will go a long way in ensuring that our students and teachers have the necessary resources to perform at their best,” the MCE stated.

The Municipal Education Director, Miss Loretta Akua Ayisi, expressed gratitude to the Assembly for the timely intervention. He acknowledged that many schools in the area have struggled with furniture shortages, affecting both students and teachers. He assured that the items would be distributed fairly and efficiently to the schools that need them most.

“We are truly grateful for this support. The shortage of desks and chairs has been a major concern in several schools, and this donation will greatly alleviate the problem. We will ensure that these items reach the intended schools promptly,” he said.

Some teachers and school heads who were present at the event also shared their appreciation, highlighting the positive impact the furniture will have on learning outcomes. They noted that students who previously had to sit on the floor or share limited desks will now have better conditions to focus on their studies.

The donation forms part of the West Akim Municipal Assembly’s broader agenda to enhance educational infrastructure and improve academic performance across the municipality. Over the past few years, the Assembly has undertaken various initiatives, including school renovations, teacher training programs, and the provision of learning materials, all aimed at strengthening the education sector.

Parents and community members have welcomed the intervention, calling for continued investment in education to ensure a brighter future for children in the municipality. They also urged school authorities to take good care of the furniture to ensure its longevity.

The West Akim Municipal Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to prioritizing education and promised to undertake more initiatives to support schools and students. The Assembly also called on other stakeholders, including corporate entities and non-governmental organizations, to partner in addressing challenges within the education sector.

With this donation, hundreds of students and teachers in the municipality can look forward to an improved learning experience, marking yet another step towards educational excellence in West Akim.
