On Tuesday, 12th May 2026, the West Akim Municipal Assembly, under the leadership of Hon. Paulina Akabila, officially handed over the site for the commencement of the 24-Hour Economy Market Project in West Akim.

The project forms part of the Government of Ghanaโ€™s broader 24-Hour Economy Initiative spearheaded by John Dramani Mahama, aimed at promoting local economic development across Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) nationwide.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Municipal Chief Executive disclosed that the West Akim 24-Hour Economy Market is expected to be completed within 12 months. The modern market facility will include cold-chain storage systems, security posts, modern sanitary facilities, and a fully integrated 24-hour lighting system to support round-the-clock commercial activities.

The project is expected to significantly boost local commerce by improving market accessibility, supporting traders and farmers, reducing post-harvest losses, and creating employment opportunities within the municipality.

The commencement of construction marks another significant milestone in the development agenda of the municipality and reinforces the Assemblyโ€™s commitment to sustainable economic growth and improved livelihoods for residents of West Akim.

Present at the ceremony were representatives of Osaberima Adu Darko III, the Municipal Coordinating Director, the project contractor, heads of department, staff of the Assembly, and officials of the National Democratic Congress.
