On 5th June 2026, the West Akim Municipal Assembly, led by Hon. Paulina Akabila (MCE), organized a tree-planting exercise at Odjarde M/A KG, Primary and JHS as part of efforts to promote environmental sustainability.
The exercise brought together the Municipal Education Directorate, Forestry Commission, NADMO, Heads of Department, school children, and community members in support of the municipalityโs target of planting 120,000 trees this June.
Hon. Paulina Akabila encouraged everyone to make tree planting a habit, emphasizing that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility. โTogether, we are building a greener and healthier West Akim,โ the MCE reiterated. The Forestry Commission also highlighted the vital role trees play in providing oxygen, protecting communities, and improving the environment.
The team later visited Wesley Methodist JHS to inspect trees planted during last yearโs campaign. The team commended the trees’ healthy growth and praised the headteacher, staff, and students for their commitment to nurturing them.
To encourage proper maintenance, the MCE announced that a special award will be presented in June 2027 to the school that best cares for its planted trees.
