
The West Akim Municipal Assembly successfully marked the 41st National Farmersβ Day at Amaako, honouring the gallant farmers whose dedication continue to sustain the municipality and the nation. Celebrated under the theme βFeed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future,β the event highlighted the invaluable contributions of farmers, fishers, processors, researchers, traders and all actors across the agricultural value chain who ensure food security and drive national development.
In their addresses, the Municipal Director of Agriculture, Mr. Daniel Oduro, and the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Paulina Akabila, commended the resilience of farmers and reaffirmed governmentβs commitment to transforming agriculture through the Feed Ghana Programme and the Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda (AETA). Updates included the registration of 94 FBOs representing 5,305 farmers, strengthened veterinary services, and ongoing efforts to enhance extension delivery through youth training and recruitment of additional officers were shared.
The Hon. MCE also highlighted local initiatives such as the 10,000-fingerling aquaculture project, plans for a municipal poultry farm, and the introduction of school farms to promote youth participation in agriculture. She encouraged greater investment in mechanization, irrigation, agro-processing, and storage to reduce post-harvest losses, while emphasizing ongoing efforts to improve feeder roads and market access for farmers.
As part of the celebration, 15 outstanding farmers and institutions were recognized and rewarded with prizes, including a tricycle, knapsack sprayers, Wellington boots, cutlasses, bags of NPK fertilizer, 32β flat-screen satellite TVs, wheelbarrows, pieces of cloth, double-door fridges, water hoses, and bags of fish feed.
The ultimate prizeβthe tricycleβgenerously donated by the Member of Parliament, Hon. Owen Kwame Frimpong was awarded to Mr. Daniel Odoi, who was crowned the overall Municipal Best Farmer. He also received a knapsack sprayer, Wellington boots, five cutlasses, and five bags of NPK fertilizer.
The event was graced by Hon. Paulina Akabila, Osaberima Adu Darko III (Chairman for the occasion), Mr. Moses Kobla Joshua (Municipal Coordinating Director), Mr. Daniel Oduro (Municipal Director of Agriculture), Nana Asafo Agyei (Reagent Chief for Osenase), Nananom, Clergy, Heads of Departments and Institutions, Assembly members, and staff.
